THEY’RE DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After what seemed like an eternity, the final 360 rivets holding the main keel strip to the bottom of the last float was completed on Saturday October 17th.   At 8:00 a.m. the shop was barely 40 degrees, but as the day progressed, it ended making it to 43 by the time we finished around two o’clock.   I should add I ran out of propane and couldn’t heat the space.   It wasn’t the official end of riveting though, as I still had 3 access cover doubler rings to rivet in place.   I did these a few days later. Although the hulls are done, there is still a lot of work left.  The pump out tubes need to be cut, fit and installed.  The spreader bars and their related attachments fitted to the hulls and then they are ready to be prepped for paint. After paint, it’s onto installing the gear, hydraulic lines, wiring for the gear position indicators, spreader bars, rigging gear to the aircraft, rudder cables, retract cables, rubber bumpers.

ENOUGH already! I have to stop here before I get depressed again.  I guess I should change the header from “they’re done” to “the riveting is done”.
