The May meeting was held at Phil Shelton’s barn
in Georgetown. President
Charlie Gabelmann called a brief Meeting to order at 1930
with a quorum of Board Members in attendance.
1.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Tom Muller read the Treasurer’s
report, listing the Chapter bank balance on 4/30/2009 at
$4,891.02.
Charlie Gabelmann presented Tom with
a check from State Farm in the amount of $1,500.
The award is the result of efforts by Paul
Caparrato, and in appreciation, Leo Leclair made a motion
to waive chapter dues for Paul.
The motion was seconded by Mark Hayden and passed
unanimously. The
chapter now currently has 32 paid members, and 3 honorary
members.
2.
ACE CAMP
Charlie Gabelmann stated that the
chapter has received details for the 2009 ACE CAMP.
Richard DeVito made a motion that the Chapter
sponsor a student for the 2009 ACE CAMP.
The motion was seconded by Tom Muller and passed
unanimously.
3.
TSA Security Directive 1542
Tom Muller and DJ Merrill briefed the
chapter on proposed TSA Directive 1542.
The directive applies at airports with any
commercial operations. Per the directive, unescorted airport access would require an
identity badge issued by the responsible airport operator.
Those without a badge could not access the facility
without an escort. While
it might be possible to obtain a personal badge at your
home airport, your guests would need escorts.
Additionally, flights to airports outside your home
base would require you and your guests to be escorted.
This is a very bad idea that infringes on freedom
of operation of your aircraft, and does nothing to
increase security. The
proposed directive is being challenged by AOPA and EAA.
4.
YOUNG EAGLES DAY
June 13th is National
Young Eagles Day and Charlie Gabelmann queried the members
as to interest in the Chapter holding an event on that
day. There
was basic interest, but the planning time is quite short. Charlie will task Everett Perkins with deciding on any
chapter participation.
5.
GENERAL
The annual Hampton Fly In will be
held the weekend of May 16.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 2020
hours
7.
PROGRAM
Phil Shelton briefed the members on
work done to date on his Dream Aircraft Tundra.
The wings and Tail section are pretty much
complete, and Phil is working on the forward fuselage and
cockpit. The
aircraft is solidly designed and we were all impressed
with the strength of the aircraft.
Phil plans to construct the aircraft on floats
only, and he has chosen Montana floats.
He plans to install a large HP engine, but has not
finalized his choice as yet.
Phil is not currently working on the aircraft as
much as he would like, due to delays in delivery of the
floats by Montana. When
completed, Phil will base the aircraft in the cove close
to his home.
JUNE
MEETING
The June meeting will be held at
Merrymeeting Airport on Tuesday June 9, 2009.
The Board meeting will commence at 1845 and the
regular meeting will start at 1930. |
