YOUNG EAGLES

another chapter, and Belfast was suggested.
Everett Perkins reported that Lewiston wanted to
host a Young Eagles day about the second half of August,
and Wiscasset would like one on October 3rd.
More details will be forthcoming.
Everett also noted that anyone 13
years or older, flying as a Young Eagle, will now also
receive an on-line pilot school from Sporty’s.

Brandy Pond in Naples the weekend of June 13.
Russell Keith has passed an FAA

loan. These
include an engine stand for a Lycoming engine, and a
rotating stand for mounting a fuselage for easy access.
Keith Oliver is back to work in his
hangar and he has mounted the fuel sight tubes in his
Murphy.

hours

PROGRAM
Everett Perkins demonstrated the
forming of Plexiglas windshields.
He showed it was possible to bend Plexiglas with
direct heat, but bubbles form, and the glass became
distorted. Everett
reported that indirect heat must be used to avoid
distortion, and 250 degrees is recommended.
To accomplish this, Everett built an
oven box that he mounted on the base of a propane gas
grill. He
also constructed a form for the windshield, covered it
with clean white cotton material, and place it in the oven
along with a piece of pre cut Plexiglas.
In about 10 minutes, the Plexiglas had softened and
molded itself to the windshield form.
After a bit of cooling, the Plexiglas was removed
and found to be distortion free, and well formed.
It showed that this type of work
could be done without a major investment using readably
available items. A great demo. Thanks
Everett.
