The July meeting was held at
Merrymeeting Airport.
President Charlie Gabelmann called the meeting to
order at 1930 with a quorum of Board Members in
attendance.
1.
SECRETARIES REPORT
Richard DeVito read the secretary’s
report from the June meeting.
Everett Perkins made a motion to approve the report
as read. This
was seconded by Gary Bergendoff, and passed unanimously.
2.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Tom Muller read the Treasurer’s
report, listing the Chapter bank balance on 6/30/2009 at
$6,153.81. Tom
advised that he has received 3 new chapter memberships and
we now have a total of 34 paid members and 3 honorary
members. Everett
Perkins made a motion to approve the Treasurers report as
read. This
was seconded by Gary Bergendoff, and passed unanimously.
3.
ACE CAMP
Charlie Gabelmann reported that the
ACE Camp candidate has submitted required papers and is
awaiting final acceptance approval.
The Chapter will provide a check for the ACE Camp
fees once everything is approved.
4.
YOUNG EAGLES
Everett Perkins stated that we must
have both pilot and ground crew commitments if we go ahead
with an August 15 Young Eagles day at Lewiston-Auburn.
Some of the members present did commit to participate, but
more pilots and ground crew will be required.
If you are able to participate, please contact
Everett not later than July 25th at
207-841-2383 or by e-mail at eve@suscom-maine.net.
Note that another event is planned for Oct 3 at
Wiscasset.
5.
SCALES
Leo Leclair reported on usage of our
scales since we received them, and his general thoughts in
reference to the scales.
Leo stated that the scales have been used to weigh
five aircraft, one set of floats, and one engine.
In one case, the aircraft owner became a member of
chapter 87, so he could have access to the scales.
Conclusions follow:
Weighing an
aircraft is not a one-man job.
Aircraft should be rolled onto the scales, not lifted and
placed
on the scales.
Aircraft should not be weighed outside, as the scale
readings
never stabilize due to wind affects.
It is the end user’s responsibility to decide how the
scales will be
used.
Leo plans to review and rewrite the disclaimer that each
end user must sign.
6. GENERAL
Keith Oliver stated that he plans to
talk with Lufthansa representatives at Lewiston-Auburn
regarding a tour of the Super Connie rebuild.
Other groups have been able to schedule tours, and
Keith will try to get us a tour in September.
Gary Bergendoff reported that his
powered parachute has a broken axle and remains grounded.
Gary is also replacing his current 550 sq ft sail
with one with 380 sq ft.
If all goes well, Gary will bring it to the next
meeting for a flight demonstration.
Mark Hayden reported that his annual
picnic is scheduled for August 22.
Members are welcome to fly in or drive in.
The event is held at Mark’s Emmitt Field, 86 Old
Lewiston Road, Monmouth Maine.
The Bowman Field fly in is scheduled
for August 29.
7. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 2030
hours.
AUGUST MEETING
The August meeting will be held at
Merrymeeting Airport on Tuesday August 11, 2009.
The Board meeting will commence at 1845 and the
regular meeting will start at 1930.
If Gary Bergendoff’s powered
parachute has been repaired, and the weather permits, Gary
will provide a flight demonstration.
